San Diego’s Hot Chicken Rivals Its Southern Roots

If you love spicy foods, you can’t miss out on the San Diego hot chicken craze. Now available at several local restaurants, these southern-style chicken sandwiches are the perfect spicy snack. They range from mild to extremely hot and pair well with the crispy fries and other tasty sides. The eateries offering takeout near our Mission Valley apartments include:

Main Chick

At Main Chick, you’ll find the tastiest Nashville hot chicken in town. The chefs use spices ranging from mild to some of the world’s hottest peppers. You can choose your heat level, and every dish is prepared to order. Enjoy the chicken sandwich with seasoned crinkle-cut fries and the Harlem Hazy IPA. Place an online order for easy pickup.

Dave’s Hot Chicken

Another Nashville import, four friends opened Dave’s Hot Chicken to compete among the best hot chicken in San Diego. It started from humble beginnings as a pop-up concept in an East Hollywood parking lot. Soon, lines were an hour long. The first brick-and-mortar restaurant opened in 2018, and today, Dave’s remains a favorite of locals and visitors alike. The heat level ranges from light to medium to reaper, and the sandwiches come with pickles, kale slaw, and a generous helping of fries. The restaurant offers online ordering for pickup.

Cross Street Chicken

Cross Street Chicken is “where Korean fried chicken meets classic Southern cooking.” The menu also features craft beer and signature soju cocktails. A customer favorite, the Hot Chick chicken sandwich features thigh meat topped with pickles, cheese, chipotle coleslaw, and Hot Chick sauce. Round out your meal with the corn poppers or beer-battered fries. Place an online order for pickup or DoorDash delivery.
